Dr Pamela Hanrahan is the immediate past Chair of the Business Law Section of the Law Council of Australia. She is Emerita Professor of Commercial Law and Regulation at the UNSW Business School and a Consultant at Johnson Winter Slattery in Sydney, and is a member of the Corporate Governance National Committee of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Corporations Committee of the Law Council of Australia, and the Conexus Institute Advisory Board.
Dr Hanrahan has written widely on corporate law and governance, securities and financial markets regulation, and the law of collective investments. Her books include Securities and Financial Services Law (LexisNexis 11th ed 2025), Commercial Applications of Company Law (OUP 23rd ed 2025), Managed Investments Law & Practice (looseleaf, 1998 – 2023), Directors’ Legal Responsibilities: A Handbook for Australian Boards (AICD 2022) and Corporate Governance (LexisNexis 2017). Key themes in her extensive collection of refereed journal articles and book chapters include the liability of individual corporate officers implicated in corporate compliance or disclosure failures, and the growing use of civil penalties in Australian business regulation.
Pamela is a Senior Fellow of the Melbourne Centre for Commercial Law, a former Regional Commissioner of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, and the immediate past Chair of Landcom Corporation. She is co-host of the commercial law podcast The BLS Report and author of the monthly column Directors’ Counsel in Company Director magazine.
