Professor Joshua Getzler

Joshua Getzler is Professor of Law and Legal History at St Hugh’s College, University of Oxford.

He holds visiting positions at UNSW and NYU law schools and is an associate mUNSW and NYU ember of Cornerstone Barristers, Gray's Inn. He was educated at ANU Canberra and Balliol and Nuffield Colleges at Oxford in history and law, and has taught at Oxford since 1993.

Joshua has provided legal counsel to governments, First Nations, law firms, counsel, and private clients in a number of UK, American, New Zealand, Canadian and transnational cases, dealing with issues including property and water rights, insolvency jurisdiction, financial market negligence and fraud, trust powers, corporate form, and Crown fiduciary duties. His teaching and research embraces wide historical analysis, and extends from common law to Roman law and religious and economic history.

Joshua serves on the editorial board of the Oxford Journal of Legal Studies and the Journal of Equity and is co-editor of the American Journal of Legal History and the Oxford University Press monograph series Oxford Legal History.
