Robert French served as Chief Justice of Australia from 1 September 2008 until 29 January 2017.
Mr French was appointed as a Non-Permanent Justice of the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal in May 2017, as an International Judge of the Singapore International Commercial Court (January 2018) and as a Judge of the Court of Appeal of the Dubai International Financial Centre (June 2019).
Since 2016, he has been an Adjunct Professor at the Law School at the University of Western Australia, a Distinguished Honorary Professor at the Australian National University since October 2016 and an Adjunct Professor at Monash University Law School since 2017.
In 2024, he conducted a legal examination for the South Australian Government of its proposed ban on access to social media by young people and prepared a draft Bill.
